Supporting/Counseling/Empowering Parents in the College Process | Adrienne Oddi, Dominique Harrison, Burke Rogers & Lucy Smith | Brodhead Center, Bolton Family Tower Room As we all know, the college admissions journey can be just as challenging and uncertain for parents as it is for their children. Recognizing the pivotal role parents play in this process, our session aims to equip them with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to navigate this significant transition in their family life. We will crowdsource effective strategies to assist parents in addressing their concerns, managing their anxieties, and fostering the growth of their children into confident young adults.

Panel Discussion with Deans: FAFSA Changes and their Impacts on Both Institutions and Families | All Deans | Perkins Library: 153 Holsti-Anderson Assembly Room
In December the US Department of Education will launch an updated FAFSA that includes some significant changes to aid eligibility calculation. Though some of these changes will help families, others – namely the removal of the number-of-family-members-in college – may not. The Deans will share:
- How the timing of launch (after most EA and ED deadlines) will affect their ability to package and/or release packages to families,
- How their institutions will handle the removal of the number-of family-members-in-college from the calculation – Will they account for multiple college students in their internal reviews of families? Will they adjust packages accordingly, or should counselors/families expect to see more gapping?
- How their institutions are planning for the future – Are they discussing ways to increase their financial aid budgets?

Re-imagining Our Profession | All Deans | Perkins Library: 153 Holsti-Anderson Assembly Room In Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History episode, The Magic Wand Experiment, he asks his guests to imagine designing experiments without the limitations of money, time, logistics, and more. What if we apply this “magic wand” concept to our own profession? While the United States is home to some of the world's most highly regarded colleges and universities, the routes to access them have undeniably grown more complex over time. It's safe to say that the majority of us would not design the current system as it stands today. If given the opportunity to start afresh, how might we rebuild it? Let us imagine, unbound by constraints, and dare to dream big.
