Kenna Powell, CPP, CRMP, CSSM, CSSP Kenna is considered a thought leader in independent school safety, having served at Providence Day School for 29 years before retiring as the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Management. She became a nationally-recognized speaker and writer, and was recently named an Enterprise Risk Management Fellow by NC State University. Kenna is now a senior consultant for Group Nine Risk Consulting and Risk Special Projects Leader for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, where she previously held the position of Association Executive Director of Risk Management. Kenna’s passion is to “bring current, best practices to independent schools to maintain an open and welcoming teaching and learning environment while providing a safe and secure campus.”

Kevin Wren Kevin is a nationally-recognized school safety subject matter expert, currently serving as the steering committee director of the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools and an advisory board member for Safe and Sound Schools. He was recognized as the 2016 Campus Safety magazine K-12 Director of the Year. His professional career includes working as a medical technician, fire fighter, law enforcement officer, director of security for two of South Carolina’s largest school districts, and now A3 school safety advocate. With over 20 years of school safety and technology experience, Kevin is passionate about protecting and serving the community and he looks forward to “developing additional partners to create safer learning environments for all students.”

Tony Pustizzi, Four Star Strategies For 30 years, Tony Pustizzi served the public with dedication, honor, and integrity, most notably as the chief of police in Coral Springs, Florida. In addition to his contributions to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, Tony provided decades of leadership and crisis management and developed strong working relationships with federal law enforcement agencies.
Tony was the highest-ranking officer on the scene during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. He, along with his command staff, led the Coral Springs Police Department in its valiant response to this tragedy. The training and equipment provided to Coral Springs first responders were instrumental in saving the lives of 17 victims with gunshot wounds who were removed from within the building.
Tony began his career with the Coral Springs Police Department in 1988. Over his 30-year tenure, he supervised every unit within the agency with a strong emphasis on homicide and special investigations. Additionally, he served on the SWAT team for 15 years, the last eight of which as team commander. He rose through the ranks to ultimately become chief of police in 2012. Under Tony's leadership, the Coral Springs Police Department was nationally recognized for its low crime rate for a city with a population of over 100,000. It was also recognized for best practices in policy development, community outreach, and professionalism. He also served as the city’s interim city manager and retired in March 2018 as the chief of police/deputy city manager.
In 2019, Tony came out of retirement from law enforcement when he was appointed as special counsel to the sheriff of Broward County, Florida. There, he provided his expertise and guidance as the agency transitioned under new leadership, with responsibility for:
- Restoring respect
- Instituting best practices and policies
Restructuring the agency
- Surrounding the sheriff with an executive staff that would promote his and the agency's success
Tony graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and law and received a master’s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course, the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, Eckerd College's Center for Creative Leadership Program, and Florida Atlantic University’s Executive Leadership Program.
He has served as state president for the Florida chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, the chair for the National Benchmark Cities Chief’s Association, an executive board member of the South Florida High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program, and an executive board member of the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association.
Strongly committed to public safety and leadership development, Tony has been a keynote speaker with the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and has worked with the FBI National Academy Associates School Shooting Prevention Leadership Forum. He also continues to work with the School Safety Advocacy Council.

James Wise James has worked with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) since 2017 as the Region 4 Training and Exercise Coordinator. His duties include coordinating and providing Counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) training from the CISA Office for Bombing Prevention, and Active Shooter Planning presentations through the Active Assailant Preparedness Branch at CISA. James also coordinates, plans, and facilitates both cyber and physical focused table top exercises in the Region.
James resides near Gainesville, GA, and is a retired Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) First Sergeant from the United States Army. His military service, from 1992 to 2017, included combat deployments to Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. During his time in the Army, James served in operational EOD team and EOD staff positions from Team to Battalion level, and also outside of EOD as an EOD liaison and SME culminating as the senior military NCO of the Ft. Leonard Wood Emergency Operations office. During his military time, James also earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees focused on Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Erick R. Johnson Erick currently serves as the newly assigned Protective Security Advisor (PSA) for the Charlotte, North Carolina region.
Mr. Johnson supports homeland security efforts and contributes to the development of the national risk picture by identifying, assessing and monitoring risks to critical infrastructure assets.
As a PSA, Mr. Johnson facilitates, coordinates, and performs vulnerability assessments for critical infrastructure and provides physical & cyber security resources to Federal, State, local law enforcement agencies and the private sector.
Prior to joining DHS, Mr. Johnson spent nineteen years with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) serving as an active-duty intelligence and planning officer for seven years and continues serving as a reserve intelligence officer for past twelve years at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Mr. Johnson most recently served as an USCG Port Security Specialist within Department of Homeland Security based in Chicago, IL where he was the subject matter expert in maritime security, maritime critical infrastructure protection and port security resiliency assessments in a four-state area surrounding the Great Lakes and inland waterways.
Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Officer Candidate School and extensive military training courses throughout his military and civilian career. He obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree from Lewis University with a major in Criminal Justice.
